Do you remember when we met? The world was darkness – a void – with sketched white forms only appearing as we passed through. The sky was black, the ground was black, and all around was that infinite darkness.
At first, I thought I was alone. I was walking through the woodlands, a spiral of white leaves leading the way. As I followed them, trees would appear to either side of me and the trail behind would vanish. I felt peace – a deep calm and contentedness. After walking for a while, I saw movement. It was slightly startling at first because I had been sure I was alone. But then I could feel you there – weaving between the trees. When I felt your presence I knew not to be afraid. You moved elegantly like a deer bounding gracefully between the ancient trunks and wild underbrush. You were so whole, so pure. A radiance of eternal sunshine.
And then I reached the copse. I sat down upon the autumn ground, my back resting against a fallen log. I felt you settle beside me even though I could not see you. We talked through the energy of the air rather than words. Ours was a language spoken only by us. And although our time was brief, we had shared many lives, across millennia. Ours were the lives of the entire universe. Our connection was deeper than the depths of the oceans, our wholeness the end of duality, the end of doubt, the end of the familiar edges of loneliness. It was the embodiment of completeness.
I felt the dreaded pull of the waking dawn. Back to a world that lacked any basic understanding. Back to a land where my words could not give me voice. I did not want to leave you. I wanted to stay in your warm embrace for eternity. Through the divine golden thread of our connection you sang your soundless tune. You reminded me that even upon waking I could never lose you. That you would be in everything, everyone, everywhere. That I only needed to look and I would find you. You said you would never leave me and that I could never leave you.
My beautiful soul, I remember our perfect time together today. I wish I could feel our wholeness once more, and I endeavour to better remember your words, your grace, your humility, your silent protection, your ever resounding understanding, and the deepest of loves of which everything is incomparable. I forget you too often. I seek you outside for your wholeness and all I find are shards of you scattered amidst people and things and moments. But today I remember that to find you in your raw totality, I only need to look towards myself and you remain at the very centre of me, calmly present, calmly waiting for me to remember you and to silently feel your name.
